Real life Hunger Games

"We don't need to cure hunger - we know how to solve it - it's food, it's nutrition and it's a question of access" - Lauren Bush

You might already know the condition of world hunger and poverty. The first thing that comes to your mind when you read those words is probably Africa. But guess what, my friends. Even India has problems with hunger. According to the Global Hunger Index (GHI), India is ranked 102 out of 117 countries. The GHI is a multidimensional statistical tool used to describe the state of countries' hunger situation. It measures the progress and failures in the global fight against hunger and is updated once a year.

The GHI ranked India in the 103rd place out of 119 countries in 2018 and 83rd place out of 113 countries in 2000. The top countries which share the first five places in the GHI claim that according to the report prepared, the level of hunger in India is "serious". The GHI is calculated on four indicators - undernourishment, child wasting (children under the age of five who have insufficient weight for their height), child stunting (children under the age of five who have low height for their weight) and child mortality. Countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Pakistan are also in the "serious" hunger category but still have a better GHI rank than India according to the reports.

This information is published on this blog to spread the awareness about the critical condition of our country. I understand how people sometimes feel that there's nothing a single person is powerful enough to do to stop world hunger. That thought is completely valid. However, you can still try to help that one poor kid you see on your way to work or school. Or donate some money to charities or orphanages. The difference you hope to make doesn't have to be huge. Every little step matters.
