Ayodhya, Lord Rama and its food culture

Ayodhya is an ancient town and regarded as one of the seven sacred cities of the Hindus, revered because of its association in the great Indian epic saga Ramayana with the birth of Rama. Ayodhya was the early capital of the kingdom of kosala. Lord Rama is also known as Ramachandra who is a deity of Hindu culture. He is 7th avatar of god Vishnu. 

Ayodhya attracts large number of pilgrims to seek the blessings. This pious city is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh where a lot of tourist attraction places are scattered which increase the enthusiasm of the traveller. It has a great religious and historical significance and a place to learn ancient vedas of holy hindu texts and for history buffs it is like a boon for giving the insight of the place. Another reason to remember ayodhya is the dispute involved the famous Babri Masjid riot.

Now talking about the food cuisine of Ayodhya which comprised of simple vegetarian meals like dal, roti, vegetable and rice. It also provides an authentic Indian Cuisine that will surely extinguish your ravenousness. Though the city of Ayodhya has a very limited options for restaurants and eateries. Whereas Alcohol and Non – vegetarian food is contraband. Some of the good restaurants are Shri Ram Hotel, Abha Hotel, Ram Shyam Hotel and Gokul Restaurant. The handful of local restaurants and Dhabas here offer Punjabi, North-Indian and Chinese cuisines. The state is known for the colour and flavours of its Chaat, which includes Aloo Tikki, Pani Puri, Kachori, Papri Chaat, Samosa and more.

If we talk about the state's cuisine i.e Uttar Pradesh's cuisine it has large number of varieties available. There cuisine have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes with variance in it. Their native cuisine also involves Mughlai and Awadhi which are quite famous of all. They also share the recipes and dishes with the other neighbouring states like Delhi, Haryana etc. As wheat is the staple food of the state, breads are quite valid there. Laccha paratha, Rumali roti, kulcha and others are the varieties of breads available. They have common dishes like sultani dal, boondi, Rizala and lot of other options in it. When it comes to dessets they have all the traditional desserts available Balushahi, Ghevar, Gond ke laddo, halva, chandra kala and huge variety of other items in the lot. There are beverages which includes sharbats like bel ka sharbat, Gurahl sharbat which is made of hibiscus flower, rose sharbat etc. Pooris and kachoris are the favourite item of the ayodhya people they prefer it in all the occasions.

Lastly Ayodhya is not just rich in its heritage but it has a lot of value in our cultural history. Food which is also offered to lord rama is Panakam, Vara padupu ( moong dal) etc. espcially by the south indian people. Food culture in India is affluent, healthy and nutrious in nature.
