Share a ‘day-in-your-life’, spotlighting the meals and food rituals
Holi is a very special festival for me and my family , we celebrate this day with gulal and many special food or meals like dahi
wada, malpua, thandai, rasam etc. Holi is a sweet festival. It it is celebrated in my house with great fun filled with lots
of memories. We decided to not use more water for playing holi as a
preventative measure for water crisis. On the first day of holi, when we
wake up in the morning, we first take a bath and we collect some wood for Holika. Then in the evening we celebrate Holika Dahan and we all seek blessings
from god and burn our old bad memories in Holika then next main holi day we
take ashes from Holika Dahan and use them like tilak and after some time we prepare
to cook special food like dahi wada, malpua, thandai, rasam, gujiya.
Dahi wada
It is made with urad dal and moong dal, this holi delicacy is
basically deep fried dumplings that are soaked in thick yogurt and topped with
red chilli, chat masala and cumin powder along with tangy tamarind chutney. The
sweet, sour and salty taste of this dish is to die for . Although, you can add
your own innovation to it by tweaking it as per your taste preference.
Malpua
This simple, sweet and delightful delicacy is made with all purpose flour, milk and sugar. No
wonder, it isn’t a very healthy option as it is deep fried and has a strong
flavour of cardamom. However, you can make it even more healthy by preparing it
with stevia or sugar free to give it a healthy touch! To add an edge one can
top it with sweet khoya.
Gujiya
Made with semolina, khoya, dry fruits and powdered sugar,
this deep fried sweet recipe is world famous and is made across india with a
regional twist. There are so many variations of this delicacy, which makes it a
perfect holi delight.
Thandai
You can not imagine holi celebrations without this beverage,
specially prepared during holi and shivratri, thandai is an inseparable part of
this festival. Packed with the goodness of milk, dry fruits, herbs and spice.
So, indulge in this delicious beverage and gear up for some fun!
