WHY TO AVOID MAIDA?

Maida or white flour is the most popular ingredient in the kitchen. Maida is used for making puries, naans, samosas, biscuits, breads, cakes and many other food items. But is it healthy? It is made out of the inner part of the wheat grain, which is processed and refined flour. It is then grounded well and bleached, which gives Maida its typical white colour. The bleach and the chemicals combined with Maida bring about its softness.
There are several risks partaking our health if we consume maida.
• Risk to obesity - The glycaemic index (GI) of Maida is very high, about 71, which means it contains double the amount of calories when compared to low GI and unprocessed food and gets absorbed into cells and increases our weight.
• Disrupt Digestion - It creates digestive problems as it contains very less food value and no fiber which makes it difficult to digest.
• Danger of developing diabetics - Maida is the most refined food amongst all and needs greater amount of insulin to manage it for that matter. Consuming too much Maida initiates surplus release of sugar in the body.
• Nutrient Deficient - As mentioned above Maida has zero food value or nutrients in it.
• Threat chorionic diseases -  Over-consumption of Maida which makes a person susceptible to unwarranted blood sugar levels and obesity can also trigger higher triglyceride levels, causing heart disorders. Maida disadvantages also include a possible rise in LDL or bad cholesterol leading to clogged arteries and increased blood pressure.

We should limit our Maida consumption and avoid food items made out of Maida. It may score high in the matter of taste but will fail you in the race of healthy life.
